The Artists

Paul Atzmiller
Paul started in art by writing and illustrating 5 children’s Little Buffalo picture books. The books, T-shirts and baby bibs are sold at the National Buffalo Museum in Jamestown, ND and he donates all proceeds to the museum. Paul now focuses on his “I Will Draw Your Dog” fundraiser. This charity effort has benefited 9 Colorado shelters/rescue groups for over 8 years, and he recently completed his 311th drawing! It works like this: Dog owners take good quality photos of their dog, send them to Paul, and he creates a FREE, 9”x12”, B&W, pencil drawing of the dog’s face. When Paul sends the drawing, in lieu of any payment, he requests the owners make a financial donation in the amount of their choosing to the shelter/group they want to support. Paul does not ask how much was donated and makes no effort to ensure a donation was sent – it’s completely on the honor system.

Jim Bennett
Jim has been taking pictures since about age nine, when he got his first box camera for Christmas. After taking photography classes in high school, his interest in photography grew even more.
With all of the distractions of being married at 21, working and then raising two sons, photography ended up being limited to short trips and vacations. It wasn’t until he got the opportunity to go to Anchorage, Alaska with a ski journalist group for a week with a friend as his photographer that he really started to think more seriously about improving his photography skills.
Jim has had his photos accepted into the Lone Tree Photo Show and received awards from the Lakewood Arts Council for his work. In addition to the Roxborough Arts Council, he is also a member of the Highlands Ranch Arts Guild, Highlands Ranch Photo Club and the Lone Tree Photo Club.Artist Website or email.

Colette Brooks
Experiencing the ambiance and absolute beauty of Rome, Paris, Amsterdam, and Switzerland, Colette felt compelled to paint what she fell in love with. Her award winning style has landed her commissioned paintings of Europe, pet portraits, and Colorado landscapes. She’s also been called upon to jury several exhibits. Colette is the featured artist in the 2006 November issue of North Light Book Club magazine as the ‘Member of the Issue’. “It is when we, as artists, connect with our Divine maker’s intention, finally realize the purpose of what we’re doing. I’m on a path meant to be and will stay the course.” Artist Website

Rita Campbell
Rita Campbell is a long time resident of Littleton, Colorado. When she retired from the University of Denver her husband B.G. gave her a gift certificate to Judy Patti’s Painting Studio in Littleton. Watercolor and experimenting with its various textures and styles is her favorite art medium. She also enjoys the creative nature of encaustic (wax) art (pictured). She has given presentations on the history and demonstrated working with encaustics. Animals, especially her pet golden retriever, and florals are her expressive subjects.

Peggy Crago
I got into pottery later in life after a long background in the fine and graphic arts, including 15 years of sign painting. From the beginning I was especially drawn to majolica with its bright colors, whimsical designs, and enduring elegance. I use a low-fire red earthenware thrown on the wheel or rolled into slabs with alterations and extruded additions. The glaze is brushed with ceramic stains and oxides before being fired to cone 03. I work without an assistant to preserve the sense of flow from beginning to end in the work and do all the work in my own studio.
My education includes three years of college majoring in art and the liberal arts, and later, three semesters majoring in ceramics, a one-and-a-half year apprenticeship with a local potter, and numerous workshops with nationally known ceramic artists.
I enjoy experimenting with classical as well as unique forms and with color and design. The studio looks out onto my organic garden, an obvious source of inspiration in my work.

Sarah Gonzalez
Sarah has been creative ever since she was a child. Like most kids, she loved to color with crayons, paint with watercolors, and create clay sculptures. When it came to assignments and craft projects in school, though, Sarah had issues with having to stay within the guidlines and rules. She always wanted to "color outside the lines", and be free to go beyond the typical, the norm. That same pioneering spirit still resonates in her today and can be seen in her paintings and other creative endeavors. For the past couple of years, Sarah has been creating three dimensional paintings on wood coined, "Wonderwoods". Her main subject has been "the tree". She has also painted a lot of mystical landscape and sky pieces. Sarah works with the tree in particular because she feels there is so much symbolism to be found there. She encourages people to "stop and really look at a tree everyday. People get so busy in their lives, they miss the simple beauty right in their own backyards." Sarah is also a singer/songwriter/performer. She is currently working on music for an album to be completed by the end of the year. Her life statement is "Be inspired!" .

Annette Gutierrez
Originally I started out doing watercolours, and then coloured pencils. I've neglected my painting for too many years, but with work it was difficult to find the time. I also do stained glass, which is another hobby that is time consuming, and requires a lot of dedicated space.
I started taking photographs years ago with my 35mm camera, intending to use them as inspiration for my watecolours. Then I discovered digital. I love the instant gratification, and the fact that I can take hundreds of shots and pick only the ones I like best. With all the photo editing programs out there, a whole new world has opened up. I can work on a photograph for as long as I like, save what I've done, and pick it up again when I have time. Photography has been a very rewarding and satisfying outlet for my creative urges, and fits well into a busy lifestyle.

Eddie paints mostly with acrylics and enjoys painting portraits, wildlife and abstracts.

Erica Hollander
Erica Hollander is a lawyer, Ph.D., psychodramatist, and a teacher who took up painting and drawing in the great Denver blizzard of 2003. After being housebound for a week or more, she found that painting, which she had not tried since she was a child, had simply captured her imagination. She now works in watercolor, ink, pastel and acrylics. Her aim is to generate what might be called emotional resonance in the viewer, and she tends to use direct statement, and strong color and line to try to achieve that. Among her favorite subjects are people, landscapes, and animals. She will work with a client to try to make an image both she and the client enjoy. Artist Website

Rick Hunckler
I was born in southern Indiana and was sketching wildlife and my pets constantly. Since moving to Colorado in 95, I found the abundance of wildlife very inspiring to paint and photograph. Now I enjoy painting wildlife, florals, urban scenes and really anything that I may be commissioned to paint, in my style of detail with the excitement of color!
I am self taught which means I have taught myself so much through trial and error and believe me, there has been a lot of error to learn from. But I enjoy the challenge of creating life on canvas and portraying the soul of my subject. Large canvasses is what I really prefer to paint on, giving me the luxury of expanse to accomplish what I am trying to convey.
I find it interesting that no two artists paint the same and that each of us is unique in our own way. And that an artist is utilizing the talents given to them to share with others the beauty of our world!

Mike and Jyl O'Neal
Mike and Jyl O'Neal have lived in the beautiful state of Colorado since 1983 and in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains since 1997. They have been working with glass since 1982, and almost exclusively with kiln formed glass since 2002.
They have received training in both stained glass and fused glass. But as most glass artists will acknowledge, the best training is from years of experimentation and understanding how glass behaves in a kiln - or oftentimes misbehaves!
They enjoy working with clients to find colors and designs that complement the ambiance of their home.

Jennifer Riefenberg
I am a photographer and painter. I restrict many of my photographs to a particular, large, limited size and I prefer to work in black and white, though I certainly shoot color. As a painter, I only sell original paintings– no glicee’, silkscreen, prints, or other copies of my work. Though dilution of artwork through mass copy is usually driven by economics, I believe in retaining the integrity of the art as a rare beauty. The prices may be a bit higher at times – but the artwork is more precious. You can be assured that you will have something unique. Please enjoy your visit to my website and feel free to contact me for commission work.

Stacy Robinson
Stacy has worn many creative hats throughout the years. Her work has been seen in magazines, newspapers, on television, in galleries, retail showrooms, and private residences. She has been a faux finisher, decorative painter, jewelry artist and mixed media artist. She has also been a teacher, explorer and seeker of beauty but more importantly wife to Kevin and mother to Haley and Mitchell. She can be found in her Roxborough studio these days creating her one of a kind, soulful and delightful art “dolls”.
“I am currently creating mixed media pieces which I call MeeMees. These figurative assemblage pieces are reflective of my tentative and hopeful nature as I slowly find my way back into the world after being submerged in several of life’s most difficult challenges. In my studio you can find arms and legs sticking out of boxes and cans, ready for assembly! They are my therapy. I sew their quirky, out of proportion bodies knowing nothing of proper sewing techniques. I spend hours modeling their small faces with their expressions changing constantly beneath my fingers. I think about them a lot as we work together and they stare back at me, daring me to ask more of myself. There is a connection with each of them, be it in their fanciful clothing or in their perplexed expressions. In the end, I have decided we must delight in the ordinary and continually seek to find simple pleasures, mischief and joy.”

Steve Schader
Born a Colorado native raised in St. Louis, Missouri, I have always known I was going to be an artist. I have always loved "fine art" but was also drawn to "commercial" art. Currently, I work freelance out of the studio in my house, creating images (illustration, brochures, logos, postcards, promotional pieces, etc.) for companies locally and nationally.

My passion for drawing began around the age of 8. Even through high school and college, my teachers encouraged me to draw every day... and for the most part, I still do. I sketch all my ideas out before converting them to finished pieces. Most of my fine art work is either colored pencils, or watercolor... my two favorite mediums. When creating a piece, I genereally lean towards nature. I love the outdoors, wildlife, and monumental natural beauty. Artist Website

Judie Seyffert
I have concentrated my love of painting on pastels, rich in color and pigment. My experience has spread well over 20 years with emphasis on the diversity and beauty of the land and mother nature's impact on it. My studies have been enriched by working with such notable painters as Barbara Brown (multimedia artist), Ben Konis (PSA), Vicky Clark (PSA) and Christina Debarry (PSA). I find constant renwal of the senses in my relocation from the TX/NM Southwest to the diverse state of Colorado, our own red rock formations and the majesty of the mountains. I am honored to have my work hanging in homes and offices from California to Florida.

I have always enjoyed art and “creating.” I am mainly a self-taught artist; but, I have taken workshops and classes by several accomplished artists, and learning is an ongoing process that I enjoy. I like working in watercolors because of their clean, fresh look.
